Maybe someone here can answer a quick employment related question. I'm exploring moving from academia to a biotech company. My question regards CV/resume format.
I know a standard resume shouldn't exceed about 1-1,5 pages. But I get the feeling positions seeking Research Scientists still want somewhat of a CV type document--meaning longer and including publications.
With publications, there's no way to keep a CV to two pages.
Anyone have any direct experience with this issue? I'd be greatly appreciative.
Merci.

Thu, December 23, 2004 - 11:27 AMI would not limit your vita to two pages, they will want to see your publications and probably in some form of proper citation. -

Re: Biotech question--anyone??
Fri, December 24, 2004 - 2:40 AMthanks, i'm getting mixed responses to this question. some people say that you should really keep a cv/resume to 1 page. if they want to know more, they'll ask. that most resumes are filtered through human resources, and if too long, they will throw them away. a friend of mine in a small company in san jose said that they get something like 80 resumes a day, and you really don't to throw a long one in that mix because they won't pay attention to it.
however, i occasionally see companies specifically asking for a CV, so i still don't have an answer.
guess the search continues. -

obviously, i don't know your background either, but if employers are seeking anyone who might have pubs then i would question the fact that they would throw longer resumes away
...you might be risking them thinking you don't really have much to show if it is one page.
perhaps you can get your resume down to 3 pages (a compromise ;)
