Hi everyone
I'm looking for some advice, the company I work for wants to hire an engineer. Of course we will choose the best engineer for the position, but all other things being equal we would like to hire a female. Women are underrepresented on our technical teams, sorry to say this isn't that unusual! But we are working to improve the situation, and want to encourage female applicants.
Can anyone point me toward some effective sites on which to post the job, in order to inform qualified engineers and women in particular about the opportunity?
Thanks!
Happy discoveries,
uniK

Re: job sites??
Tue, November 22, 2005 - 2:14 AMAs a woman getting her doctorate in Computer Science and who has been a software engineer her whole life, I can definitely tell you women are indeed underrepresented in the profession as a whole.
That said, there are a few.....And I and a couple of other over-educated software women are looking for jobs in the next couple of months.
But of course I think the world is computers and you are probably talking about engineering like making cars and stuff... -

Re: job sites??
Tue, November 22, 2005 - 7:57 PMRight, we know its a problem and we would like to do better. A balanced representation of women in technical roles is surely better for the workplace overall - but this is a topic for another time.
I do know for a fact that that the current situation both in our office and in the resumes we've received doesn't reflect the demographics of the pool from which we're pulling! Less than 10% of the applicants so far are female.
You are right we don't need a software expert, more like a mechanical engineer. I thought some tribemembers here could suggest some e-job boards on which to post. I did check with AWIS but wondered if there was a slightly less spendy way to get the word out.
good luck in your job hunt Keri!
thanks,

Re: job sites??
Sun, December 4, 2005 - 9:00 AMI believe the Society of Women Engineers has a job board? If you're looking to recruit only in your area, ask the local universities. ASME definitely has a job board, too.
